OCEAN LAB: DROP INS AND DISCO FISH

Atelier Edens scientific partner and bio-acoustics gun, ROB McCAULEY from Curtin University’s Centre for Marine Science and Technology (CMST), recently dropped into the Aphids seaside office with his daughter for some project updates as well as some excellent discussion about the musical potential of underwater sounds and which musical genres Rob’s hundreds of hours of fish recordings would best be classified under.

Rob introduced Atelier Edens artists to the intrepid Whale Song scientists and his CMST department builds hydrophones – microphones designed for underwater use.  The CMST will be custom-building a hydrophone for the Atelier Edens Ocean Lab which will be sent to collaborating sailbirds Renae and Cerae for testing of recording and broadcasting underwater sounds.

It’s all getting pretty exciting.
